Effortless can be Effective!
In a civilisation that celebrates sweating it out, believing that effortless could be effective might feel unusual...
“How self indulgent is this! Should I be doing this at 8 am on a monday morning?” Said a guilty voice in my head.
Picture this…
8 am Monday morning brouhaha in Paris. My neighbours were dropping their children off at daycare, coming back from a run, getting ready for their first meeting of the day…while I was in a Restorative Yoga class.
To prop my back against a bolster, to make no effort and to settle into stillness at 8 am was a big deal!
Why? Because in a civilisation that celebrates sweating it out, believing that effortless could be effective feels unusual.
Restorative Yoga is boring…
Restorative Yoga is for seniors …
Restorative Yoga is for when you are recovering from an injury…
Just common myths! If you have ever thought this. Here is why I suggest you change your mind and try a class this season.
But first, this is what to expect in a typical Restorative Yoga session:
Warm and decluttered space, slow mindful movement, poses you will hold for anything between 2 and 10 minutes, props (cushions, bolsters, blankets..) for comfort and stability.
There are many benefits to this. What strikes me the most is that these practices are designed to trigger a rest and repair response in your nervous system. Your body releases stress and unprocessed emotions so that the mind may regain comfort, calm and focus.
A regular practice will also improve sleep, digestion, arousal and libido. Who does not want that? Science calls this, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system.
As we soldier through the last few weeks of winter and countdown to spring, our body needs a balance between rest and stimulation. A sweet spot between conserving energy and fighting lethargy. A mid-day or an end of day Restorative Yoga practice will you give you just that!
Wellbeing is a balancing act between how you eat, work, play and rest. Personalised guidance and having someone hold your hand through the journey makes all the difference.
That is why I choose to work 1:1. We start with you and your goal. You walk away feeling in control of your physical and mental health.
If you feel ready to make your wellbeing a priority, so that you may be present for what matters to you, let’s work together to make that happen.
